What do we want?

PEACE!

When do we want it?

NOW!

Mo and I went to the (huge) war protest in DC yesterday, and it was unbelievable. I have never seen anything quite like it. Nearly 200,000 people gathered with a variety of creative, offensive, hilarious, and poignant signs (and assorted other protest gear) to express their disapproval of the war in Iraq. It was an eclectic mix of people: hippies who were probably original Vietnam protestors, Gen-Xers, college kids, parents with strollers and wee ones in tow (many of whom were also decked out in anti-war/anti-Bush gear!). There were a few anti-protestors and one or two of the obligatory Jesus freaks railing about irrelevant topics (my favorite was the dude on 15th Street sceaming into his megaphone about sodomites), but for the most part, there was palpable solidarity among the marchers. It felt good.

The increasing strain on my back from my ill-advisedly heavy backpack, however, did not feel quite so nice. After several miles of walking and several more hours of standing, Mo and I decided to call it a day and headed back to my place to take a nap before heading to Asianpixie's pool hall birthday bash (which, by the way, was awesome, even though my already mediocre billiards abilities were further hindered by my alcohol consumption).

All in all, I must say the day kicked ass.

Protestors in front of the White House... look closely and you can see the spotter/sniper on the roof!

I couldn't resist posting this one... Mo and I are just too cute! (Please pardon my borderline-nauseating gushy tendencies. I shall attempt to keep them under control.)
